Talk:cpp/index
[edit] this would be a lot of work
This would be a lot of work to do manually, look at the size of autolinker and the search lists: Autolinker-definition-cpp Cpp-search-list-cpp. Even if created, would this be kept up to date? --Cubbi (talk) 09:03, 3 December 2014 (PST)
- I am aware of that. Well, if you think that is pointless effort and I should give up... I better stop now. I think it is not necessary to index every single method just most important language concepts. I'll wait for your opinion. (Zingam (talk) 06:39, 5 December 2014 (PST))
- I am not saying it's pointless (it looks very nice actually), I'm just concerned with future maintenance. The lists I mentioned above are maintained manually and they fall behind every so often. If this isn't going to be as comprehensive, I suppose it isn't going to be that hard. --Cubbi (talk) 06:58, 5 December 2014 (PST)
- OK. I'll continue doing it. I won't go into too much details so it won't be too difficult to maintain. I guess it will take me a few months to finish. Then it shouldn't be that time consuming to maintain unless there are huge structural changes to the site. I will need to split the index into multiple pages. Is it possible to do the editing offline and then upload it all at once? (Zingam (talk) 05:23, 11 December 2014 (PST))
[edit] What is "STL"?
I see this index has
STL
Standard Template Library (see also STL)
There is no such thing as "STL" or "Standard Template Library" in any revision of the C++ standard. What do you refer to by that name and why is the link to cpp/header? This wiki mentions STL at cpp/language/history and cpp/links. --Cubbi (talk) 06:31, 11 December 2014 (PST)
[edit] Much Better Than External Search
While this may be a lot of work, it is a much better alternative to the current external search with DuckDuckGo. At least here you would have somewhat of a concise list of spots to jump to instead if a mish-mash of 10-line each result entries in hap-hazard order. Drankinatty (talk) 21:49, 28 February 2021 (PST)
- cpp/symbol index too. Indeed, this index has been somewhat neglected, even more than the index used by the built-in search box. --Cubbi (talk) 20:26, 1 March 2021 (PST)
